Why blank out your license plate?

Why do some of you black out your car license plate in pictures you post? Eveytime you leave your driveway thousands of people see your plate, what the need to protect it in a picture on a website?
I am not up to date with current security practices, can someone add to this?

I never pay attention to Plates while i drive. some people feel safer that way I guess. You can learn a lot from a plate number.

I do it for asthetic reasons. I hate the plate design on my car in pictures. It stands out too much. You have to admit that it looks better smeared out...

Its good to see that the Corvette crowd has some b@lls.

Yes your car looks better with the plate smeared in Photoshop.

It was just something I noticed, and couldnt figure out why.
