Detailed TRASHED Black IS350 - M105 + Menz Power Finish + Fuzion - 41 pics

Detailed this for a local racing forum member. It's a lease, and the owner apparently polished the entire car with metal polish. Basically it looks like someone rubbed sandpaper all over the car....

I had the worst hangover of my life when I started on this thing and felt like I was going to vomit all over the car every time I bent down, but luckily I got it done without my breakfast ending up on the car.

OK so enough of that...this was a single stage paintjob, and luckily the paint was pretty soft. The Flex 3401 was used for everything, but I used the PC 7424 with 3.5" PFW pads on the bumpers.

Process was as follows:

-Wash with DG 901
-Clay with new "sample" clay I'm testing, which worked quite well
-Opti-Seal on wheels, PB BnB on tires
-Meguiar's #105 on exhaust tips

Paint correction:
-Meguiar's #105 with yellow LC cutting pad
-Menzerna Power Finish with LC green polishing/finishing pad
-Wolfgang Fuzion Paste Wax

Power Finish works awesome, just what you would expect from Menzerna. Great working time, little to no dusting, and finished down VERY nicely. 105 didn't leave behind any noticeable hazing, but Power Finish took the finish to the next level. Some of the deeper stuff couldn't be taken out completely (wetsanding required), but they didn't want it perfect - just good enough so that the dealership wouldn't notice all the scratches all over the car.

The pictures can say the rest....

Oh, this is what the previous um, "detailer" left for me:

As you can see here, some of the deeper stuff did not come out, but the improvement after 1 pass of M105 was quite dramatic.

This is where those terrible scratches were on the roof...

Final "after" shots:

What the hell did the previous "detailer" do? Looks like he just threw some dirty water on there, let it dry, then rubbed the grit around!

Great job Matt, sometimes the cars that are in the worst shape can also be the most rewarding and satisfying....again, you kicked butt on this one, its people like you who keep raising the bar for detailing ( true detailing)

Hey Matt,

thats awesome work !
just want to know more about how you feel about the power finish .
do you reckon it is good for a one step polish ?
i mean many ppl out there stick to SIP and 106 , maybe it will be a new trend soon for SIP and Power Finish and leave out 106 totally ?

or perhaps to avoid the occassional mernz acting up and dusty issues, the new combo should be Power Finish and then 106 FA ?

Power Finish does not have as much cut as SIP. I would say the cut is closer to IP.

I could have gotten away with 106FF or even Final Polish with this one, but wanted to test Power Finish. It finishes down perfect and seems like it would be an awesome one-step polish. If you are going to do a two-step polish anyway, might as well stick with SIP/106. BUT, if you are looking for a good one-step swirl remover, or have serious compound hazing to remove and want to finish in one step, Power Finish is the way to go.
