With Ford, there are DPF delete kits and then SCT is best for tuning. I don't think any of the big 3 can be tuned to fool the DPF and Regen mode with it still installed, what happens is the DPF causes backpressure as it gets full to which the engine dumps extra fuel in raising egts to burn the crap off.

Getting rid of it and a good tune by SCT on the 6.4 is night and day difference, nevermind the huge increase in power, but the engine drives so much better and way better mileage. There are similar kits for Dodge and GM and their DPF systems. But with all them now, the dealers can check if a tune was ever done as removing it beforehand doesn't work anymore.

Would love to DPF delete and a good tune, but I definitely can't afford to screw up my warranty.

It is a lot of truck! Took me 3 1/2 hours today to wash, glaze, wax and dress the truck. I'm aching right now! Wife was nice and rubbed Icy Hot on me! LOL.

Re: My New Toy

Very nice looking truck and a super detail. My daughter drives an Eddie Bauer Expedition with the big motor and I cringe every time I'm with her when gets it filled up so can understand where you're coming from. Very nice ride and can tow a house but those fuel bills, wow. Good luck with you and your wife's health issues.

Re: My New Toy

Nice truck. I was thinking about getting the new 6.4's but I heard about the gas mileage and said I will keep my 7.3. If you go to Diesel Forum - The Diesel Stop.com, they can help you with any performance items for your new rig. They are great for any general questions on your truck. There is a programmer available to delete the dpf and boost the power level to 500+

Good Luck
Ken

Thanks, Ken. I think you did the right thing by keeping your 7.3. No EPA crap on it. Hear the same thing with Dodge and their 5.9 vs 6.7.
I go to Diesel Stop, Diesel Garage, and Powerstroke Forum to read up on stuff. Would love to do those aftermarket tuner and delete kits, but I can't afford to lose my Ford warranty coverage.
But I'm still loving my stock diesel so far! My lie-o-meter is about 0.5 mpg off the hand-calculated results.....not bad. I'm stll getting about 13-14 city/18 highway, unloaded.
