Re: dsms detail- Mercedes SL55 AMG

Great job on a very nice car!
2 suggestions/questions if I may:
1-if the vehicle you're claying is that bad, you'd be better off kneading your clay alot more often. If you don't, the clay will essentially not be as effective at removing the contaminants & it will cause moderate marring from being so dirty.
2-what is the reason for taping off this vehicle to the extent you did? It's very unlikely (if even possible) that you'll burn the edges with your flex (coupled with SIP). Was it so that polish wouldn't get in the cracks? It's a good idea to do this when sanding, but overkill for this application IMHO.

Im not really sure what you are trying to say with the clay, are you giving me a suggestion or pointing out a mistake I made with the clay from that one picture? I did happen to knead the clay quite a bit(as a do with all other jobs) and I actually used 2 small pieces instead of one. One piece was used for the lower half and the other was for the top half of the car. As for the tape job I just feel more comfortable having all the edges taped off so I can polish efficiently without worrying about polish getting into crevices etc. It just ends up being more work later removing dried crusty polish from the cracks, its very hard to remove polish from the tiny gap where the window meets the door panel as well. Plus I never have to think about burning th edges, even with my flex. I also use the tape to section off panels when polishing.

Stunning work, man.

Just a comment, not critique:

To solve the issue of polish creeping into cracks everywhere I wash the car using "tix degreaser", an alkaline solution diluted with water. Now, I'm from Sweden and most detailers don't wash off the polish but a few of us do which gives the benefit of clean paint and no problem with old polish residues. To each his own and I'm glad to see such an outstanding work delivered.

Kudos.

Daniel

Re: dsms detail- Mercedes SL55 AMG

very nice work, was that detail for a customer? How much time was involved? What machine was used on the matts to get the stripes. I love those lines. If it was a customer vehicle around what range of pricing would go for, I'm having my web site being worked on now and I am coming up with pricing, a large part of my cliniets drive vehicles of that class.
