Black 02 BMW 745Li - Finally Finished with Paint

I finally finished with the paint on this Bimmer. It had 4 areas where it had been re-painted and those were soft...no, softer than soft! It was painful to work with (2 doors, quarters, bumpers) and then easy to work with the OEM paint. What a chore: constantly changing to fresh pads on the soft stuff.

Used: 3M Perfect-It 3000 compound, 3M Perfect-It 3000 Swirl Remover, 3M Ultrafina SE, and finished with 3M Performance Wax (not bad stuff....I had a sample in the shop).

Wool pad compounding work

Foam pad following

After Ultrafina and a coat of Performance Wax

Hanging around the car LOL

Side finished

Trunk Lid after Ultrafina

Yours Truly (taken by Dealer's Son)

I'll try to get some outdoor shots tomorrow before the rain and snow..ugh.

Toto

The paint looks great Toto!

I hope I don't create any controversy by asking this, but I thought you had converted to System One?

Wow. Like a mirror. You can see the glare from your glasses in your reflection (last pic). Beautiful.

Toto..you never fail to put out amazing work. It's interesting to see you use different products as well..reinforces the "it's the method, not the product" mantra.

I do use and wanted to use System One on this vehicle. The dealer insisted I use 3M products. I think it was because of the re-painted panels and the trouble they were going to cause that was the decision maker for him. I "discussed" strongly (beats saying argued) my feelings about using 3M (especially the dreaded Extra Cut...which is beach sand in a liquid suspension) and he won the discussion on 2 big counts: 1 they are his cars and 2, this is his shop. So, I did have to give it the power washings between process'es (compounding and polishing) and he helped.

It really is, after all the process over the product.

LOL, that is completely understandable. Obviously, finished product is what matters and you always pull off the amazing turn around.

I don't understand why he would hire a Master such as yourself and then dictate the products you are to use. That aside, beautiful mirror finish.

Understandable Toto, but didn't you say that the System One was quicker for you to use? IE: Makes you more efficient, which allows you to do more work and make him more money?
