Show Car Garage Video: How to restore clarity to cloudy, hazy yellowed headlights

Show Car Garage Video: How to restore clarity to cloudy, hazy yellowed headlights

How to restore clarity to cloudy, hazy yellowed headlights

Here's some behind the scenes shots...
Before shooting a video everything needs to be set up and placed into position, this is where Yancy our Director takes over...

Setting up a display takes a little talent and artistic flair, that's where Yancy's natural artistic ability is a real benefit...

If you look to the right you can see our camera mounted on our 19' Jib Boom, this enables Yancy to bring the camera in right up close where the action's taking place.

Love this Kreepstool Rolling Utility Seat!

Thumbs up Re: Video: How to restore clarity to cloudy, hazy yellowed headlights using the Diamondite Clear Plastic Polishing System

Very cool Mike. Top notch.

What is the recommended rpm range for using the Diamondite System via the rotary buffer?

Hi Erik,

Long time no see!

The recommended speed for a rotary buffer is a max of 1800 RPM, but anywhere from 1500 RPM to 1800 RPM is a good range for operating a rotary buffer. With a rotary buffer it's easy to generate a lot of heat fast so you want to be careful you don't get the plastic too hot.

Specific recommendations can be found here,

Can a DA be used? You don't mention that in your video.

The kit does not include and adapter that will attach the backing plate included int the kit to a DA Polisher.

The Adapter for a drill has a smooth shank for the chuck on a drill while the Adapter for a DA Polisher has a threaded shank for threading into the Free Floating Spindle Assembly of a DA Polisher as you can see in this picture.

Can a DA Polisher be used to restore clarity to a cloudy, hazy headline?

Yes but you need the below Adapter,

D.A Adapter 5/8" X 11

Looks like this,

How effective is a DA for this purpose? More so or less than a drill?

Because a drill is direct drive, it's more effective, especially if the plastic is in really bad shape. The smaller size of the pads in the kit do help though and so does the fact that the are very thin, this helps them to rotate better.

A corded drill works better than a rechargeable drill also as there's now issues with battery running down as you're working.

Re: Show Car Garage Video: How to restore clarity to cloudy, hazy yellowed headlights

Hi Mike ,great video!

About how long before they start to get cloudy again on a car that sits outside 24/7
after polishing ? Is there a product esp designed for uv protection on headlights?

Thanks!
