Does speed 5.5 exist on the PC 7424?

I've seen a few posts where people say they run their PC 7424xp or 7424 on speed 5.5. Mine (a 7424) does not have such a speed. It's either 5 or 6. There is no in between. I can try to place it there, but it won't stay. It will "spring" back to 5.

On all the other speeds, I do have an in-between, such as 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc. But the switch will not stay on 5.5 at all, so it's either 5 which doesn't seem like it has all that much power or speed 6 which seems like it's about to blow apart...hahh.

I even ordered a new switch, and before I could even install it, I noticed it was the SAME way. There is no 5.5.

Just wondering! Because I don't have another to compare it to. Maybe it has changed on the 7424xp ???

Re: Does speed 5.5 exist on the PC 7424?

I have Porter Cables 7424 first generation polisher. My speed control knob rotates with click detentes and will stay between 5 and 6 without an issue...

Well... I can turn the dial to 5.5 but I don't notice a difference in speed between that and "regular" speed 5. At about 5.6 (when it's actually notching up to 6) I notice a huge difference. I think you are right. It doesn't seem like there really is a speed 5.5 on the XP.

Not on mine. I do notice it seems to have half speeds like 3.5 and 4.5 OPM.

I may have misunderstood.

Tomorrow I'll check to see if I note a discernible difference from 5.0 to 5.5 to 6.0 on my machine....

Re: Does speed 5.5 exist on the PC 7424?

The 7424XP has 5 indents between speed 1 and 5. In other words 5 clicks from 1 to 2, 5 clicks from 2 to 3 etc. There are no indents between speed 5 and 6.

Re: Does speed 5.5 exist on the PC 7424?

Mine PCXP also goes from 5 straight to 6. No middle ground. I don't think I've ever actually used 6, but it would be nice to have a little more than 5 sometimes.

Never used speed 6? Try it... you will like it.

Are you possibly thinking about the Griot's, which does have a 5.5 speed.

Re: Does speed 5.5 exist on the PC 7424?

Yup!! I have that SAME issue. When I first got it, I could have sworn it would "click" into 5.5, but then when I went to use it again, recently, it wouldn't click into 5.5. I think it stays but its real loose between 5 and 6. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it.
