Griots 3" Polisher Orbit?

I want to to use smaller pads - like 3" pads. The Griots 3" polisher is the right size, but I've read that it's a bit weak. A lot of a polisher's power comes from the size of the orbit. I can't find any info on the Griots 3" polisher orbit. Anyone know the orbit on that polisher?

yes it is a bit weak, I use it on motorcycles in tight areas, I wouldnt use it to tackle a big job. You can buy a 3.5 in back plate and use it on anothe machine if you have one Jeff

The GG 3" seems to work really well with MF pads, but it's a bit wimpy in general. If you're really trying to do work, a PC with 4" pads will give you a lot more grunt, if you've got the room for 4" wherever it is you're trying to fit into.

If you buy the griots just make sure that you order the pads separate so you get the pads that are the right size for the unit.

Gentlemen (Ladies),

Thanks for the feedback. I have a PC, Flex 3401, and Festool RO150. I have lots of options. But I want something small and nimble. So I'm going to try the road less traveled...

I have a Festool RO90. It's a great little sander with good power and a Rotex mode like it's bigger brother (sister?) - the RO150. It has two backing plate sizes - 2-7/8" and 3-3/8. I thought, "Why not..."?!? So...

I'm going to order some 3" and 4" Hydrotech pads from AG and try them out with my RO90. The smaller backing plate might work with the 3" pads and the larger should should work nicely with the 4" pads. But we'll see...

I'll post the results of my testing if anyone is interested. If you are interested in the RO90, you can check it out on the Festool USA website, or at your local Woodcraft or Rockler stores.

I bought the GG 3in. polisher last year and like several people have said, it's a bit on the weak side. I found some real small backing plates that I use with my circular machine to get to those small areas.

It's really meant for certain areas of a car the 6" can't fit, not for doing the whole car with it. I've heard only good things when used for this purpose alone.
