    PowerLock film?

after removing powerlock i've been noticing an oily film left behind. i seal the entire car using my PC and an LC red pad, once the entire car is sealed i go back to where i started and remove it. do i need to let the product cure for a little longer, maybe it's too thick when applied (2 large pee sized dots per panel), or is it normal?

It may be a combination of both? (too much product, insufficient setting up time)

What steps are you taking before applying the PL - have you washed, decontaminated at all, using any kind of glazes or filler type products?

vehicles are either just polished (pf2500 or sf400) or washed and clay'd. no glazes.

    Re: PowerLock film?

Well I am an avid user of Menz polishes and often seal with Powerlock and can't say I have experienced the problem you are having, but I would suspect that perhaps you applied it a little too thick.

A little goes a long way and you only need to get the thinnest layer you can on.... anything more is literally a waste with it being wiped off into your MF towel.

Did you do the swipe test to see if the PL was ready to come of (i.e. swipe your finger over a section where you have applied the PL - you should see completely 'smudge free' paint where you swiped.

If there are still smudges then it needs to sit longer before removal.

lawrenceSA-- Could the polishing oils left behind be causing this problem??

What type of durability are you seeing with PL??

    Re: PowerLock film?

The majority of Menzerna polishes use either an:
oil-in-water emulsion, or a wax... for their abrasives'
    lubrication source.

    So...
•After the polishing session, and if synthetic-LSPs
(such as: Sealants) are then to be applied to the vehicle...

-It has been their recommendation to perform
"wipe-downs" of the paint with products such as:
    -Menzerna Top Inspection
    -IPA/Distilled Water solution
    -Paint Preps, or similar solvents

I would be willing to bet that's the issue right there - too much product. Two pea-sized drops should be enough for 2 or 3 panels. Also, make sure you're giving it at least 25-30 minutes to dry to a haze before wiping it off.

Did you shake it well? A lot of times when the polish sits for awhile it separates and the oil rises to the top. If not shaken well, the oil comes out first as it is at the pour spout. I like to shake it and pour out a few ounces into a small plastic bottle in order to allow some room in the original bottle to mix well.

Do not add more sealant because you finished a panel..add only as needed. Remember thin is in.

    Re: PowerLock film?

Sounds like to much product. (shake well) If you can see coverage when applying the sealant just keep going with it, then when it lightens up a little light push the pad on to the surface to add a little more sealant to the panel. I had the same problem when i first using it. If you have a film after just wait a few minutes then rebuff with a clean microfiber towel. I only use one coat on the cars i detail.
