Re: Finally, A Tire Dressing Applicator I Like
Thanks for all the great ideas guys, I have been less than thrilled with some of the applicators I've tried recently, but a brush-type applicator may just do the trick!

Re: Finally, A Tire Dressing Applicator I Like
I've been using paint brushes for a long, long time. Another thing I like to do is to cut the bristles down fairly short. The bristles become stiffer thus allowing them to work around lettering and any raised areas much better.
I just got some of the Cobra tire applicator pads but have yet to test them.

Just goto home depot or the dollar store and get a paint brush, it works the same, hands stay clean, easy to spread, and only a buck or two per brush so toss it when it gets really bad
Shhhhhh, this is supposed to be a secret......

I have been using the Cobra applicators for some time now and have been pretty pleased with them, but with the last batch I ordered (one of the bogos, I believe) I noticed a change in their performance, I suspect it's in the density of the foam. With this change, it appears as if whatever tire dressing I apply to them is wicked down through the pad, forcing me to use 2x - 3x the product to get the previous result. The ones I had originally purchased had the yellow backing on them, the ones I've grown to dislike have a red backing on them.
I hope you fare better with them, or that whatever was wrong with the red (bogo) ones has since been addressed.

I too use the Cobra applicators and they have served me well, but after using the opti-gun, I don't have much of a need for applicators anymore. Don't know how I ever got by without it.

Gene, I can't tell you how glad I am to here you say this. I caved in over the weekend and purchased myself an opti-gun for this very reason. What is your dressing of choice for use with it?

I use Opti-bond in mine. Works really well. If diluted 1:1 and applied and left to dry, you'll get a high gloss. To tone it down, just run over it with an applicator. No more uneven coats and wasted product.

I bought one of those and threw it away after the first use. Maybe it works better with gels. But with sprays it is absolutely useless
I prefer the cobra flex foams. I spray the product onto the foam and then spread it onto the tire.

I only use mine with gels. Anything thinner and you may have issues. The thicker consistency of a gel prevents it from running and allows the product to cling to the tire. IMO, it's much easier to apply uniformly. Has paid for itself in product savings.
