wrong already
ok, I bought a new porter cable 7424xp . I was doing some test spots on my Harley bags that had some bad swirls. I bought it here as a kit. It came with pads and wolfgang 3.0 swirl remover and glaze. My question is I have to lift the weight of the da off the surface to get the pad to rotate. Is my pad not loaded enough or did I not install something right?

Re: wrong already
I started at 2 with the swirl remover , then brought it up to 4. Also , I'm using an orange pad

Re: wrong already
Should be spinning at 4.keep it flat and mark the backing plate with a sharpie, this by Mike Phillips will indicate spin rather the vibrate.

Re: wrong already
Doing Harley bags are awkward.keep the machine flat at all times with a little pressure.Dont push downward with so much force,as this will also cause the pad not to spin.

Re: wrong already
I put a small piece of green tape on backing tape so I could verify it was spinning. On a flat surface on #4 setting it will spin with the weight of the Da polisher . Any pressure at all it will stop. Is that normal?

Re: wrong already
If your pad is not rotating and only vibrating you may be putting too much downward pressure on the polisher. Should be applying about 12-15 pounds of downward pressure.

Re: wrong already
On the #1 or #2 setting, I have to lift the weight of the polisher to get it to rotate

Re: wrong already
1 or 2 is spreading the product, the machine won't spin or rotate at such a low speed. The machine needs to be dialed in at a minimum of 4 for swirl removal.

5 to 10 max.12 to 15 is way to much.
