Cool Tape?

Noob here with UDM on order from Autogeek.net. Hand detailer with OCD, I figure I should fit in right here.

Does anyone here tape off the headlights or rear taillights when using a UDM or PC to apply the polish and then the wax? My common sense is telling me that if I use anything at to remove swirls or scratches with a white or harder cutting pad the answer is yes. I also think if I am just polishing I can probably let it go since they cant really harm anything. Is this correct?

I tape off everything. Not for waxing though.

I always tape when poilshing. I learned the hard way and stain some plastic on my old car. Try out the bright green 3M tape, leaves no residue behind and comes right off.
