I can not say if it is the Edge 2k doing it..I do not use it on a PC....just a rotary with 2k wools...but I can say I never had any grease..oil come from the PC using a plate and pad...
I use 5 and 5.5 inch pads now..since then I found My PC runs cooler..pads spin while cutting or polishing..and PC bogs way less...and less vibrations....I am now convinced that 5" pads are the Ideal size for a PC and the low profile of them also helps....
look at it this way...take a 3/16ths inch drill bit...cut thru 1/2 inch steel...it goes right thru effortless..now take a 1 inch bit it takes time to cut thru....drill bogs more pressure needed to bore.. drill gets hot..it is surface area friction..the bigger the more strain on the power unit...now this is talking hand drills..not a drill press....
One thing to remember..when using and extension cord...use a heavy gauge...the better the power feed the cooler the PC runs...when the PC calls for power during strenuous periods and you have a cheap cord..it will heat up and will smoke due to heating the motor coating or other material in the housing...even melt grease and let it flow...just a thought.....
