There still might be the reason to wash pads prior to the first use that is not about "removal of any possible contamination". I have heard you need to wash them prior to first use so they end up not being stiffer during first use than what they are designed to be in regular use. I did not wash all of my CCS prior to their first use but I did end up washing those that have not been used and I thought I could feel the change in stifness of the pad.

Whether that is correct only somebody like LC can say.

With the LC CCS pads you don't have to be as concerned but all pads are shaved down into their current shape. So there is a great chance that there is still foam particles inside the pad and would come out during the first use. Some people think that it is the product dusting but its really the extra foam coming out of the pad.... so it never hurts to atleast rinse it out before use.

I haven't to date, and I have worked on oh, a big 4 or 5 cars at different intervals. Not much, I know, but I only buy the LC pads, no issues. Knock on wood I guess! Perhaps I will do so from now on.

Very good point budman, I'm going to be changing my routine and giving them a quick rinse off before first use.

but they should dry first, right? Else you are watering down the product and hindering its efficiency, no? I mean I don't know but I thought so.... I mean like that is why you shouldn't use too much pad conditioner or etc., right?

Yeah I would let them dry before first use.

On the Cyclo pads I have found small pieces of Velco stuck in the polishing side of the pad. I don't wash them but I inspect all new pads prior to using them. I also spray some pad conditioner on them and us the brush or spur on them prior to first use.

Thanks again everyone for the advice! I forgot to ask though....How do you guys squeeze out the water from your pads? Can you fold them in half and squeeze it out? Or will it mess up the velcro? I'm thinking of throwing them in the dryer and put it on the "air" dry cycle so the heat won't mess it up. What do ya'll think?

Squeeze out as much water as you can, then put them on the PC and spin dry on speed 6.
