curved body panels and the PC question

I was just wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to use the porter cable on curved body panels, like the bottom half of the door on my 1999 camaro. Every where I read it states that the PC should be flat against the surface. It also seems that if I try to angle it a little it bogs down. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

well i like to use a up and down motion on horizontal surfaces, following the curve ,maintaining as much pad contact as i can and even pressure.

Apparently so. How do you go "up and down" on a horizontal surface? Do you have any video of yourself doing this?

That's how I do it. For example: A door that's curved just below center..... I will start at the top (near the window) and move the buffer down towards the bottom of the door. The curve of the door is horizontal. Rather than moving left to right it allows more of the pad to stay in contact with the surface moving up and down. Make sense?

I understand you are moving up and down on side panels. I am having trouble incorporating the horizontalness of this...and FWIW, that is not what Joy's post said. He said "well i like to use a up and down motion on horizontal surfaces, following the curve". The line of the curve as extended along the body panel may be horizontal, but the surface is vertical.
