Any one ever had this problem with the edge pads?

I noticed last time i used my edge pads that the center plastic disc would hit the car when ever i tried to use the side of the pad, its almost like the 2 halfs move a side and the disc makes contact with the paint, needless to say its not a good thing.
any one had this issue?

Stop trying to use the side of the pad. The Edge pads are not meant to be used like that. They are all like that, they take two halfs of foam and glue them to the plastic. There is going to be a cut and two sperate halfs to the pad. They do not glue the foam together. You can use the side of the pad, but it is tricky. It is easier to angle it at 45 degrees, or not even put it on it's side in the first place.

Particularly true with the wool pads on the rotary, because things happen so fast, and the wooly edges hide the plastic--you are closer to the plastic than you think. Don't use the edge of an Edge! EDIT: I think this is noted on the package for the wool pads--not sure about the packaging for the foamies.

but some times i dont have a choice, when i am working in air vents, the edge makes contact.

Its not the plastic disc, its the glue, and we don't glue the edges together on purpose because we don't want hard glue at the edge of the pad so the glue is recessed inside. Don't press that edge against the paint just lightly feather it and you will be ok. Its kind of like not pressing hard against the edge of a velcro pad because you don't want to hit the backing plate.
