now do I see any benefits, well when I first used it I thought it would feel wierd but it actually feels very confortable. I don't even notice a difference, it does have some advantages...like side mirror sections, I can manipulate my rotary a little better and having more clerance in between helps the manipulation. Oh another good one is when doing sports cars and they have a spoiler....depending on the type of spoiler if it's a low one it will help if it's a high one it could restrict you...either way spoilers are no fun when it comes to detailing . Another advantage I've noticed is I can plase my hand closer to the pad and becuase of the gap I don't have a fear that the pad would catch my fingers.

Disadvantages...mmmm...oh I got one...when your doing the lower panels and if it's a really low vehicle it takes some playing around with the machine and not hitting the ground or ending up with bleeding nuckles....mmm...can't think of another one I'm sure I'll come accross another one and I'll try to remember.

Either way, the backing plate that I use is wicked and well worth the bleeding nuckles...works for me and I'm happy with it

I'll get back to you as for the extension for the PC but to be honest I'm not sure you will like the price...to build one peace is $ but to build hundreds/thousands is another story...but I'll let you know. My way of thinking is anything can be done in this world, it's just a mater of how much you are willing to spend for it....but that's just me.

In another note, I have the Edje connectors and I have never had a problem with them...what happend to yours? Just wondering.

I have actually found a guy on a local car forum that'll make me one for free or dirt cheap... he does machining work daily and is currently working on building a E36 BMW drag car, so he's turned his garage into a welding/cutting/etc... lab.

Anyway, I never had the edge system, so nothing happened to MINE, but I heard way too many failure stories, and with common sense I can understand how a PC, with it's movemen, can destroy the connector...

I always wanted to try the edge on the rotary, but no money to do so currently, but I simply swore off of it on the PC, simply for the fact that I don't like the idea of metal coming loose 1" from the paint

I'll update the thread once I actually get the thing made and see how it works.

Orngez....the plates are available in England....I called to see if any in the states...and none....I believe they are made at 3M Europe or a subsidiary...also the adapter can be had in the states..its made by 3M....the plate is around 32 US in England at the 3M outlets.....they said the may be looking into doing one for US soon..for the Superfina polish system....

3M also has a PC extension adapter ..its about a inch long.....same threads as a PC..male on one end and femalle on the other....may be at Napa as I seen a lot of adapters there near the body supplies

Not sure this would do it or not. I think the pc thread is 5/16" but I noticed a battery terminal extension in that size. Not sure I can link but a description was

orngez - I do have a spare one oh but check this out my buddy in Europe ordered more of the 3M backing plates that are 5/8...so no need for an adaptor. I'll be receiving them soon, not exactly sure when but I'll post pictures when I recieve them.

Al-53 - It would be very nice if 3M US could get there hands on the backing plate because it is a nice backign plate, that's the only backing plate I use...unless I'm using a wool pad then I use the Lake Country one.

Reddwarf - Yes, it does come in handy. My machine shop is set up more fo the oil and gas industry. The machine shop is geared up for anything really, but majority of the orders that come through are for large quantities and somw what large items too. Just about anything can be made with the machine shop but anything to do with oil and gas that is. For example, big washers for the drilling bits or very big (what I call) drums that are parts for the drilling mechanisim...my partner is the one that takes care of the machine shop I'm just the money guy
