Wolfgang pads

Hi all. I just got my Porter Cable and intro pad kit from Pinnacle. I'm alittle concerned as to how the two grey finishing pads in this kit have the velcro going all the way to the edge of the pad. Seems to me if I'm say working on the top of a fender and hit a roof pillar (perpendicularly) or something that the velcro would damage the paint. Anyone have any experiance with these particular pads? (Wolfgang concours series)

use the pads and PC all the time. No damage. But then again I use a flexible backing plate and try to center the pad on the area as going around it.
