Question Edge 2K pad broke!

Hi all.

I just picked up a PC 7424 and set of Edge Pads from autogeek.net. I have an old Deere tractor in the garage that I am using to practice with the machine on before I approach my cars. My problem is this. I was using the blue pad on the machine, and noticed a black stain and a slight tear developing on the pad. Upon closer investigation, I realized that the plate the foam pads are bonded to is apparently cracked. I'm not sure what could have caused it. I didn't think that I was applying too much pressure, but as I said, I am new to this and may have been, unintentionally.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this happen, had it happen to them, or have any advice on how to avoid it.

Thanks in advance.

Wow! This is the first I've heard of someone cracking the plastic plate. I have read of a couple of people having the ball bearings fall out of the adapter and the plate delaminating from the foam, but you're the first to do this at least that I know of.

I'm sure if you contact Autogeek or EdgePads one of them will be happy to replace your pad.

This has happened before. Aaron and Meghan will take care of you. I remember going through 4 velcro backplates before changing over. I even had a pad fly off while buffing! At least when this happens in an EDGE pad, there is no damage. I've used a yellow cutting pad now for over 3 months and on over 30+ cars with no damage to the pad. I was going through 3-4 Meguiars pads per month.
You will not find better service when you combine AutoGeek and EDGE.

Thanks for all the feedback. Like I said, I am new to all this, and know I have a lot to learn. I will give them a call at some point during the week. I'm more interested in whether or not I was doing something wrong though. I was wondering where the black stain may have come from. Is there something inside the pad, or plate that would have caused that?

Ditto....Talk directly to Aaron from EDGE. Everytime I had a question or problem with my pad, Aaron answered or replaced. Very good guy and customer service.
I too had my plate break. I was using the Orange pad though, not the blue. I know I did not apply enough pressure to break the plastic, so it my have been a defective part.

Wow! I didn't know breaking the plate was such a common occurence.

The black stain on your pad may have been from some rubber trim. Did you touch the pad against some trim while you were buffing?

No. That's what I thought it might have been, initially. The stain is about 1/4 in in from the center of the pad, and has a small tear in the foam in the center of it. It's shaped like a crescent.
