| | What am I doing wrong I recently purchased a Porter Cable 7424 from autogeek. I consider myself at least somewhat mechanically inclined. I am having this problem with the polisher. It seems to be hitting the rivets on the polishing disk. Its overheating and I hardly have enough room to remove disk with supplied tool. I cant put any pressure on the toolat all with out it basicallly stopping( setting at any speed). I would think they result from the same cause. Am I missing something? is there a spacer or do I have a disk with a short shaft.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks and have agreat weekend.

| | | Re: What am I doing wrong PC should have better instructions about the washer. Since it is so vital in the performance of the machine you would think they would put a big red tag on the washer. |

| | | Re: What am I doing wrong That hard plastic washer is meant to be a spacer if needed. Like detailgod I never had to use it and no issues. Those that have had the same problem as you corrected it with the spacer. |

| | | Re: What am I doing wrong I have 4 backing plates for DA polishers and only one doesn't work with the PC, the 5" Edge BP. There are 4 screws that stick out of the top of the BP making it impossible to tighten it onto the PC. The other three don't have anything on the top of the BP, so they work just fine. The Edge BP came with my UDM and works fine with that but a no go for the PC due to the smaller shroud. And FWIW, the PC manual I have which is copyright 2001 doesn't say anything about a washer but a parts diagram I printed out made 5/17/02 lists a spacer Porter Cable part number 850218. |

| | | Re: What am I doing wrong washer is the common issue as noted, and described in the directions. Never had any problems with several backing plates (yellow flexibles) and adapter from Edge. |

| | | Re: What am I doing wrong So I got my PC today. First thing I looked for was this washer. Found it. Put it in place and went to install the yellow flexible backing plate that was included in my wolfgang kit. Guess what - it had a little washer on it too. Do I use both washers or just the one that was in the bag with the PC instruction manual? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
