polyurethane enamel polishing

I've yet to polish a re painted vehicle, and it just makes me nervous when people start telling me the type of paint used. I've got a restored beetle to polish this weekend painted with polyurethane enamel. Seems to be a common finish, but I don't know if it is cleared or not, or if it matters.

Do I need to approach this any differently from the norm?
