Souveran Wax

Hi Gearhead,
Thanks for the reply. I have a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe. In good shape, and would like to keep it that way. Surface is pretty smooth, do I need to clay?
Just trying to do the right thing, but have no experience. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it has never been clayed it will probably amaze you at what has accumulated in the surface over the past couple of years. The operative word in this statement is "in" the surface. Clay removes embedded contaminants. You can always use the sandwich bag test. Put your hand in a thin sandwich bag and run it over the surface lightly. You will likely feel some drag. Once you've clayed the surface it will feel very much different. Claying brings some other interesting things to light however. Most clays will induce some however light marring to the surface often identified as swirls or spider webbing. Typically a good claying will be followed by a light polish. There are a ton of good threads here on AG that talk about surface prep in all forms. It's pretty eye opening for someone looking to step up the game on finish care.

Thanks again. My question is that since I last waxed about a month ago, do I need to strip the existing wax before applying a sealer? Applying a sealer over old wax doesn't sound right. Please advise.

You can use Souveran as a topper over just about anything (I'm sure there's something that it wouldn't work with but I don't know what it is). You can do that without any of the preparation I've mentioned. Most of the prep work I've spoken about will in essence remove the wax you've previously put down. It's just kind of expensive to use in this manner without the prep.

how many coats do you typically use? I am using the liquid and the results are far better than any other wax I have used or from a detail shop. Granted, I did more steps than before but, wow what a shine. Question - would more coats of this stuff better the shine and last longer? Or, would I be wasting the product by applying more?

I have used the Signature Series Wax and loved it but tomorrow I have my first venture with Sauveran. Planning a whole day of detailing to my new 1995 Blue Dodge Stealth. Just recieved my Porter Cable 7424, XMT light swirl remover kit and Souveran paste wax. Also will be using numerous DP products for the first time. I am a newbie to this forum but I will post how things go and some before and after pics.

Although the car is new or almost new claying is still needed. My wifes 07' Fusion was brand new and just feeling the paint I knew it needed to be clayed. Great idea to clay new or other wise. Two coats of Souveran is all you need to ensure full coverage. Adding more is just wasteing product it adds nothing or make it last any longer.

theres a point on diminishing return on use of waxes and sealants. Commonly one coat of wax is all that is necessary for outcome. Second coat would be for uniformity and to assure complete coverage. Any more is likely just wasted product.

you can boost your Souveran liquid by using the new Souveran Spray Wax after each washing however. Adds gloss and some addtl durability and much easier as a quick wipe and buff deal.
