Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

I recently bought the Pinnacle Complete Detailing Wax and Cleaning Kit that includes: souveran wax, body shampoo, clay bar, clay bar lubricant, paintwork cleansing lotion, crystal mist detail spray. What I first did was

1.wash & dried my car
2. clay bar w/ lubricant
3. used paintwork cleansing lotion
4. put on souveran wax

After I finished which took about 4 hours, did all by hand btw, I noticed that some areas had marring, probably due to the clay bar? I plan on getting the Pinnacle advanced swirl remover and Pinnacle advanced finishing polish. My question is, do I have to remove the wax that I just put on a day ago? or just apply the swirl remover and then finishing polish after that? Thanks in advance.

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

I would remove the wax before you polish. The polish will remove that wax, but during your wash use APC or something that will remove the wax.

My general rule is if you are going to clay bar, to plan on it causing marring. This means you will have to polish afterwards or at the very least use an all in one product.

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

I would assume the polish would cut through the freshly applied wax and work those imperfections right out.

Are you sure the clay caused the marring? Did you clay in a circular pattern or side-to-side pattern?

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

Using the least aggressive approach, polish the areas where the marring is present and then reapply the wax.

Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay is the finest grade of clay available so the chance of it causing any marring is highly unlikely unless it's user error. Make sure that you're using enough lubricant and re-knead the bar after each section, inspecting the bar frequently for contaminants.

The biggest mistake people make when claying for the first time is rubbing the clay outside of the area that's lubricated. Try and break each panel into sections and keep the clay inside the lubricated area.

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

You will get some sort of marring with ANY clay bar you use. Think about the process.....

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

So if I am suppose to remove the souveran wax that I just applied a day ago? what would you guys recommend? Or can I just apply the swirl remover then add the finishing polish since the polish would remove the wax.

If you're going to polish, that will remove the souveran.

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

Thanks Mark. Which brand would you recommend: Pinnacle, Wolfgang, or Menzema? I want to buy both the swirl remover and polish.

No problem. Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and Wolfgang Finishing Glaze make a nice combo. If you want something more aggressive, go with M105/M205. The Wolfgang Polishes are definitely better than the Pinnacle line.

Re: Pinnacle Clay Bar Caused Marring

Kind of a newbie question. Is finishing glaze the same as polish?
