Suggestions on what make/model digital camera for 8yr old

Well the title almost says it all.

My son is turning 8, he has wanted a digital camera for a while, he treats his stuff well. He has put a digital camera on his b-day wish list.

Any suggestions on a good simple quality reasonably priced camera for him?

Thanks!

Well it really depends on your budget.

You can get a cheapy 1mp camera from Toys R Us, Disney model etc for about $29

A buddy got a $50 Argus? was like 2mp for his daughter , said it was crap.

Again if your budget permits, these looks like a good deal, both good brands and pretty highly rated at cirtuity city.

Nikon Coolpix L10 5-Megapixel Digital Camera 89.00.
HP Photosmart E427 6-Megapixel Digital 89.00

yea thats a tough one motorcity, I would say ease of use and durability would be top of the list of what to look for.

The nikon that greger mentioned might be a good choice, I have a really old nikon digital that has stood the test of time, and its been knocked around quite a bit. Even though you say your son treats his stuff well, which is a rarity in children these days, he's still 8yrs old and alot of cheaper cameras ive seen seem flimsy to me.

I would get a foam padded carrying case and a good lanyard for whichever camera you choose. My nephew is 7 years old and just getting into computers, I bet he would love a camera for his birthday or Christmas.
I like being the uncle that gets him the cool gifts instead of clothes

depends on your budget, I'd spend around $100 on 8 year old...

Thanks guys.. I was thinking $100 range as welll.. He really is unbelievably good with his stuff and very anal about the condition he keeps his stuff in which is th only reason I would entertain spending more than $30 on an electronic device..

He's had handheld gaming systems (gamboy, gamboy advanced, DS lite, PSP) and he has taken remarkable care of them!

I'll do some reading up on the makes/models you sigested gregg thanks!

Hey bro I would seriously look at the Nikon Coolpix lineup. Got one for my daughter and she is 7 and can handle it really well. It will even do some video which she figured out how to use herself and took some pretty good video with it I might say. I love Nikon and use a D50 so I guess I'm a little partial to them. Also the Coolpix takes good quality pics even in the hands of a 7 year old.

I like the Canon Ixus. Great quality, and easy to use.
I have dropped my camera a couple of times... Still works like new!
