Photography

I know alot of you guys like cameras and photography. Now i am looking for a camera that will be good for everyday use but also for very good photography in the sense of color sharpness many different options and so on. Any ideas on what a good camera would be for this that isnt out of a 250-350$$$ price range. Thank you all i love reading all the reviews.

I bought my wife a Canon SD1000 and I'm blown away by how good it is. I picked it up for $215 at Circuit City and with the money that you have left over you can buy yourself a 2 gig memory card.

What kind of photography do you do plan on doing the most? What features are most important to you?

The Canon elph series is an excellent choice if you want small and portable but will be limited in zoom and usually suffers in image quality when used in low light conditions

The Fuji F series of small cams are much better in low light and are also nice and small (I use one for my "pocket camera", for when I don't want to carry my digital rebel) but produce a picture that some might consider over-sharp.

There are many average sized cameras that offer lots of features and good image quality depending on conditions - there isn't really a "perfect" camera though, you have to fine the one fits your needs the best.

Depends a lot on what type of pictures you want to take. I narrowed my choice to three last year, looking for something with a nice zoom. I ruled out the Sony (H5 I think it was) based on price since I was wanting to stay around $300. Then I ended up with the Panasonic FZ7 over the Canon S3 IS because I found a great deal and the two cameras seemed to be pretty evenly matched. I'm sure they all have new models by now.

There are several good sites with a plethora of reviews including the following that I found the most helpful. They all have good forums where you can find out real world experience.

You cant go wrong with most of the offerings from cannon and nikon, IMO the best cameras hands down.

More importantly is you getting used to using whatever camera you pick, learning good picture taking techniques, and picking your shots/location/composition. Its easier to take nice pictures then it may seem, with practice.

Editing can go a long way with making a good picture, but better to learn the actual picture taking skills first.

May I suggest that if you are looking to make photography a hobby or something that you will do often, invest a little more money and pick up a digital SLR, they are leaps and bounds ahead of a regular point and shoot. That not to say great pictures can not be taken with a point and shoot, the SLR will just take a better picture, with far more control over the picture for the photographer.

I got my Canon Digital Rebel, tripod, 2 1gb SD cards, and 55mm lens for 315$ recently. Unless your planning on printing over 20 x 30, look at the Canon Digital Rebel.

I just recently got the USM [Manual or Auto Focus] 75-300mm lens made by Cannon. The camera is a wonderful starter DSLR and is working great for me and takes truelly wonderful pics with noise being pretty NON existant.

Shooting in RAW is nice as well as I can edit in photoshop like I would change camera settings.

My vote look at a Cannon Rebel with the stock lens and look at getting the Cannon 75-300mm USM lens or a Sigma 75-300mm lens as there is one that doubles as a MACRO lens as well.

-Ryan

btw: Cannon > Nikon for me. When you look on the sidelines of football games, you see ROWS of big white lenses, ya know who makes those? Cannon.

If you do not want a DSLR, The Cannon S2 or S3 win my vote hands down. They have a huge optical zoom and you can adjust alot of advanced settings as you get better. They also shoot some pretty nice stereo videos

get a nikon =)
actually im not biased at all i was brought up with nikon so im accustomed to that stuff
i currently have a d70s that im looking to upgrade to the d300 or d3 whenever it comes out...i could settle for the d2x

i have a 50mm 1.8 and a 17-55 2.8 love them to death
everyone likes the 18-200 cuz its a walkaround lense but blah, i spit on it even the VR

canon xti is the way to go..if ur not doing the 20d or anything
either brand is good...i like nikon...=)
