I'm not sure that I understand the significance of what he did. I take it that it wasn't considered illegal hacking. I take it that the company can't just relock with a new code. What is up with it?

when you buy almost any phone these days, it will have to be unlocked for use. the apple Iphone is only available on the AT&T network but what this kid has done is found a way to unlock it and make it available for use on any and all networks. i see it as a good thing for apple because more people can buy the iphone, but it would hurt AT&T a little bit because people are no longer required ot be on that network to use this phone. plus he's 17 and the first person to be able to hack this new phone which is a crazy piece of technology in itself...and its very expensive so im surprised he would do this to a brand new iphone

the phone was donated, and he receieved donations (as what I read in his blog).

Its kinda useless tho IMO. Unless the carrier has unlimited data plans, a big part of the iphone becomes expensive. The iphone is a heavyyyy data user. Which is why it makes use of an unlimited data plan with att (I think).

Visual voicemail is also a feature ONLY from att right now.

shame the kid could not solve World Peace, or War in Iraq, or the Gas Crisis. While not a criminal, its truly is a shame to see modern children failing to use their talents for a greater good.

That's because it has become unsafe for them to be outside doing what we did as kids. As long as their are whackos like Couey on the streets (who can rot in hell and is going to get what he deserves--BTW), and abductions keep occurring, I believe that my childrens safest place is in the home, where I can see them Not saying they don't go outside and play in the yard, but not to the extent I did as a child.

Maybe some business will employ this IPhone cracker and put him to good use of some kind.

i have to disagree kids to go out and play much because there mostly lazy. they would rather play on the computer. my wife baby sitts for a 7 year old and thats all he wants to do . you ask him to go out side and play and hes like naaa im to tired . im like tired. your only 7 you should have a ton of energy to give me that.
