If your laptop already has Win7 and does NOT have a touch screen on it, I'd say wait and see before buying. If the new Metro interface needs as much memory as someone said earlier, your laptop may or may not have it and laptop memory is not cheap to upgrade.

Never got the mac thing either. Had to use macs in high school for all kinds of things and hated the format and the style. It felt more of a toy than a tool. Linux>Win>Mac all the way!

Re: Windows 8 for anybody

I use classic shell on win 7 and read that it works on win 8 as well. I like my old school xp style start menus. I like to make folders for types of programs and organize them accordingly. It drives me nuts when I go on someone elses computer and their list of applications is really long.

Weeellll, isn't that special? That sure answers the question of where that puppy is.

Off to "CNET" I go.

Thank you very much!

Re: Windows 8 for anybody

Hmmm, from all the articles I'm seeing about Win8 today it seems like I read some bad info about the classic interface being ripped out during beta. I might have to check it out after all. Especially with the promotional pricing they're offering where you can get a download version of Pro for $39. I've NEVER seen a Windows upgrade that cheap!

Re: Windows 8 for anybody

Well, might as well enter the fray. I say don't do it. I had Win 7 and everything was perfect. Guy a work convinced me to upgrade. He and a couple of others had. Stupid, stupid stupid me!

No performance improvement that I can tell. Sure the Windows back splash comes up faster but the apps loading aren't ready to use. Unless you are using a WIN 8 app your screen goes back to Win7 desktop. Pointless. And has caused me compatibility problems. I'm waiting for a weekend when I can backup, wipe, and install Win 7 back.

All this said, if you have a windows 8 tablet with touch screen then Win 8 is probably cool.
