Something came in the mail!!! to swap or not?!?!?

Here's another pic..... I just laid 2 rims on one side of the car, to get an idea of how they will look. Man, I want to put them on NOW...lol. But no winter yet.

Pardon the crappy cell phone pics. I rushed home at lunch when the wifey said they came in. I will post more pics once I get it installed. They are Drag DR34's, with Hankook iCepts. What's bothersome to me tho, is that they are perfect new rims.... but will look like $hit after only 1 winter. I am tempted to have them remounted and rebalanced (yes it will cost me money), and have the OEM rims with snow tires, then the Drags for summer.

What say you?

I mean they weren't uber expensive rims, but still, a shame to get them all trashed. If I do get them swapped over tho, which means, I have to remove the snow tires from the Drags, remove the OEM tires from the OEM rims, and remount on opposite. Not only will it be around 200 bucks, but I will risk the shop people scratching all 8 rims, as they remove and remount the tires.

Anyone know how easy it is for shops to scratch the rims? I guess I have never had to have a shop remove and remount a tire.

thanks!

Depends on the machine they use the mount and dismount.

Personally, I run winter tires on OEM wheels. Generally cheaper if I curb them (if I have to scrub off speed on icy conditions). Or if I damage them they are easier to find and replace.

My 0.02 cents.

Yeah true. I need to do more research on shops around here that will mount and dismount properly.

Doo iit! I would say keep the aftermarket wheels for summer. The wheel and tire shop up the street from me said they do dismount and remounts of tires for 15 bucks a wheel. so 15x8= $120, not too bad. Still probably cheaper than 1 wheel.

Definitely swap those bad boys out! They are perfect for summer. Your OEM rims look like they would be easier to coat for winter protection too. You ever considered Plasti-Dip?

I would say the key to mounting them is to find a shop that actually sells rims, like Discount Tire. Or ask around.

Yeah, don't forget balancing too. They have to rebalance each wheel the total given to me was 170 with tax. Sucks. Also, get this, if they scratch or damage the wheels, they are not liable for damage replacement. I said, say WHAT?

Hey Chris... Yah I am leaning more towards just running them as winter as I intended for reasons above. It sucks. But oh well... The risk of scratching and damaging are greater . But plastidip? You mean for the rim? No.... Sounds ricey?

Re: Something came in the mail!!! to swap or not?!?!?

Those look too hot for winter use.

You need to do some searching to find the right shop. Those look 10 times better than the stock wheels. I cant tell, are they the same size?

Think of it this way too. You will have to get new tires eventually. So in the long run, what difference does it make swapping them now versus getting them replace sometime in the future? Might as well enjoy the new look now instead of later.

What's up man? Sorry I have been off the boards lately. What two kids does to a man.....

Yeah for me, it's the additional cost to get them swapped (dismount, remount, rebalance), plus the chance of getting them scratched. Also, the Oem rims would be more expensive to replace than these new rims.
