I hate letting other people touch my car!

I took my tC in yesterday to get the windows tinted, I went to a local place that did my sons car because they did a nice job on it and they are local. Their main business is a car wash that also does complete details so I thought they would respect my car. I washed it Friday night then Saturday morning I wiped it all down with a QD and decided to go ahead and clean the glass for them. My car was spotless! when I took it in and the Fuzion was really shining. I figured they would take a little more care with a clean shiny car then maybe a dirty one. Well I was mistaken! When I picked up my car I looked it over real good and there was dried dirty water all over the paint around the doors, all over the roof glass and all the windows had spots, smudges and streaks all over them. There were even water spots on the door sills, rear bumper and hatch jambs. I was not happy so i went into the office and asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn't one there right now and the guy that did the tint was nowhere to be found so I told the girl how unhappy I was and she acted like she didn't care. She said I could run it through the car wash and I told her I could live with the dirt but not the scratches from their wash!
It just really makes me mad that I take my car to a place that advertises full details and I get it back way dirtier then before. I also think if someone is doing tint they would want to make their tint look good as possible and clean the outside of the glass to show it off but it was so spotted and streaked that I could hardly see the tint.
I went home and cleaned it all up again then looked at the tint real good today after it had a chance to dry and it looks really good so he did a good job with that but I got the impression that he really takes no pride in his work!
OK rant over I just had to get that out of my system! Thanks for listening!

Re: I hate letting other people touch my car!

Im the same way. Last week I got my front end aligned and tires rotated. I asked the to cross the tires, instead of the useless front to back. When I was checking out my girlfriend called me so I got distracted. When I got home, I looked at the bill and they charged me $20 to look over my car, (wich I didnt ask for) then I looked at my tires and they did the front to back rotation. I was pissed and it was sunday, they were closed.

They tinted your windows, you know what's all involved there, right? I expect my car to have smudges and dried up water all over it after a tint job. I understand how much time you put into it but look at it like this, it cleans right up, right?!

Any pics of the car after the tint job?

I understand what's involved but what I don't understand is why I have to be the one to clean up after?
That's like picking up your car after having engine work done and having grease all over your fenders and steering wheel and the mechanic saying "you know what's involved there, right?
I just think if someone took pride in their work they would clean up after themselves and not leave the clean up for the customer.

I agree with you, but from one geek to another, I Do Not let these places clean my car once their done with their work and I let them know to leave it dirty...

why?

I would rather clean the water spots, doorsills, glass, etc etc etc. Rather than have someone who will most likely take the simple shop-rag (which has who knows what on it) and clean the streak windows, scratch the doorsills clean, and wipe the interior panels down.

Sorry no pics yet. I do have some pics of after I first cleaned and waxed it after I first got the car about two months ago. I've been meaning to post them, guess I need to do that. I have a few more mods I want to do before I take any more pics. The car just doesn't look right the way it is now so I'm not wasting any MB's on it! (Remember when we used to say "I'm not wasting any "film" on it"?)

Re: I hate letting other people touch my car!

i had the same exact thing happen when i got my car tinted as well. they spray the water formula all over the outside/inside windows (gets all over the paint as well) when they trace the tint piece and when they apply it. all you can do is wash your car/wipe down the interior as soon as possible...

Re: I hate letting other people touch my car!

I know what you mean.

I took my car to a bodyshop last week to get my bumper replaced. When I was talking to the estimator, I told him that I do not want them to wash my car. I showed him how it was swirl free, and that I do no want to risk any marring from their wash bay. He was cool with it.

Then out of the blue after that conversation, he puts his finger on the hood and swipes it as if he saw something on the paint. I was seconds from blowing up, but I didn't want to cause a scene as I could just polish out any damage he just put in(car is opti-coated). But I couldn't believe it.

These guys are so dense when it comes to paint care. I dont understand how they know how to paint, but they don't know how to take care of and treat paint. Mind=blown
