A lot of the LSx engine guys run the German Castrol. It's 0w 30 weight but it's more like a 40 weight. If you read bobistheoilguy the wear results are the best out there. You have to look at the back of the bottle and it'll say made in germany on there in small print, it's not easy to find. Penzoil platinum tests really well also.

Re: Oil Change Time ... Which and Why >>

I ordered a couple cases of Royal Purple oil and transmission fluid for my new VQ35 and transmission. Sending some oil to Blackstone Lab for a vehicle specific analysis is a great idea! I've heard nothing but good things about Royal Purple and have even seen demonstrations in person that have really impressed me. There's a few videos on their site that sold me.

My transmission calls for Nissan Matic-D, the dealership wants $18 for a quart! I need 9 qts for the transmission and about 4 for my new torque converter. 13 qts @ $18/qt = $234!! Royal Purple Max ATF goes for $14/quart locally and I found it online for $11.11/quart, so I only paid $155.54 for 13 quarts . And of course their Max ATF is approved for Matic-D Transmissions.

Also, it's purple. (My favorite color)

+1 I always use Royal Purple, it's the only oil I use in any of my cars.

naturally I decided to do 2 cars with Amsoil (Lacrosse, Vette) and the 2 Caddys (CTS/SRX) with Mobil 1.

there is a big price difference and had I known it I might have stayed with Mobil 1. I first visited Pepboys that wanted 9.99 per quart for Royal Purple and Mobil 1 was just slightly less. That in mind I got Amsoil (3 gallons) for just less than 100.00 shipped. I originally thought it was a great deal, when its actually a good deal.

The other night while at Walmart they had the 5.1 quart jugs at 26.48 each and the quarts for 6.48 for Mobil 1.

Amsoil --- 1 Benjamin shipping included (12 quarts)
Mobil 1 --- 66.00 plus tax for 12.2 quarts

Also fun fact of the day Castrol is what Jag, Land Rover, VW, Volvo, BMW, Mazda use when their cars roll off the line, and at the dealers for scheduled maintenance.

Have been using the same oil in my S60 since I got it. A lot of members on Swedespeed use Mobil 1 and Amsoil as well. I really believe synthetics are the way to go these days.

Re: Oil Change Time ... Which and Why >>

I'm currently running M1 with M1 EP going in next oil change. However it seems M1 (non EP) is showing high(er) iron level in uoa. After I use up the M1 EP I will switch over to Pennzoil Platinum maybe Ultra since both M1 and Pennz synthetics can do 7500 miles and Penz is slightly cheaper and just a good.

Amsoil imo is above both M1 and Pennz when running extended oil drain but at 7500 and below M1 and Penz can more then do the job. I run Amsoil in my tranny and will continue to do so, it shifts smooth as butta and I will stick with Amsoil in my tranny.

As for Schaeffer's oil it is a very stout oil which I would chose over Amsoil and personally use Schaeffer grease (#221 Moly Ultra). Had I found my Schaeffer distributor before I found my Amsoil guy I would be running Schaeffer in my tranny. The day I pop open my diff cover it will be refilled with Schaeffer gear oil.
