Any Jeep Wrangler Owners

I'm looking at an 02 sport 4.0L standard, hardtop,AC,oversize off road tires, original owner 91K miles very little offroad use for 8K

Was looking for feedback on what to look for as far as problems or needed upgrades.

Thanks

I've owned 4 jeeps, 1993 4 cyl, 1997 4.0L, 2008 unlimited and another 2008 2dr x. From owning the 1997 (a TJ) I only ever had one problem, the fuel pump went out and acted like a no spark issue. Things to look for I would say check for a lift with oversize tires, turn steering wheel lock to lock to check for rubbing with the tires. Check the diff fluids for signs of water. Check under the carpet for rust and the windshield frame for rust. Huge problem with TJ's and YJ's.

The 4.0L is a great motor and will run for a very long time if taken care of. Hope this helps

Re: Any Jeep Wrangler Owners

I have a 2007 Wrangler 4dr. I added a supercharger which made a world of difference in power. The stock 3.8 is weak beyond words. Jeeps are perfect trucks to mod out and there are a gazillion things you can do them. The sky is the limit.

2002 now. All these are great tips. The 4.0L is definitely a good choice. You mention large tires. Is it lifted as well?

Thanks for the answers,I really have to give it a good look for rust but it did look clean.I'm not sure if it has a lift or just appears that way with the oversized tires I need to crawl undereath for a better look.
The 4.0L is indeed a great motor,I had a cherokee when I first moved to HI.

Thanks again

Ken

Re: Any Jeep Wrangler Owners

owned a 05/07 and now a 12 arctic edition wrangler. the 4.0 is bulletproof. the 3.8 in the 07-11 was really lacking power. the new 3.6 in the 12-up really changed the game. look it over good. sounds like a nice rig.

Well, ask if it has a lift. If the lift is more than 3.5", find out if it has the slip yoke eliminator. If not, be sure to drive it at highway speed (65-70mph). Lifts over 3.5" usually need the SYE to prevent a vibration caused 'death wobble' that shakes the vehicle all over the road. Sometimes, you can get away without it though.
