Re: Recreation co-ed softball last night, ankle busted

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I've been there and done that. Not as bad as yours...I did it sliding into third base. Hope the healing process and rehab go well.

That numbing medicine sucks. I had 3 nerve blocks for my knee. It's a wierd feeling not having feeling. It wore off after about 18 hours and then I had the worst pain I felt in my life until the 2 pain pills I took when I woke up kick in

My suggestion take pain pulls before the numbness wears off

Yeah, I've taken 2 already. Been about 4 hours since we clamped off the nerve block. Supposed to have a half life of 6 hours. I imagine tomorrow morning when I wake up I'll be feeling it, if not in the night.
I'm hoping I can get away with using the thing for the next 2 days though, I just don't like it.

Molecular Mimicry
Another fate of the foreign proteins is they can cause the body to make antibodies that are not solely specific to that foreign protein, but also interact with similar human proteins. This mechanism is known as molecular mimicry. The body attacks itself and the resulting diseases are referred to as autoimmune diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and the other inflammatory forms of arthritis are autoimmune diseases.
Molecular mimicry in rheumatoid arthritis has been identified with cow's milk. One analysis showed that the amino acid residues 141-157 of bovine albumin were essentially the same as the amino acids found in human collagen in the joints (Clin Chim Acta 203:153, 1991). The antibodies synthesized to attack the foreign cow's milk prots, end up attacking the joint tissues because of shared sequences of amino acids between the cartilage and the milk proteins, that the antibody is directed to attack."

Re: Recreation co-ed softball last night, ankle busted

After about 6 hours of having the blocker clamped off, my leg started to wake. That tingling 'sleeping' limb feeling turned into some massive pain. It was pretty bad for a while, but I eventually got to sleep.

It hurts now this morning, but being allowed 2 Percocet is helping me get through it. I think I'll manage as is and let our nurse friend remove this damn thing. I hate it so much, just want it out of me.

Luckily I have feeling back in my fingers as well this morning. It shouldn't have gone that far.

Re: Recreation co-ed softball last night, ankle busted

I know the feeling. I had my right arm ripped out by 6 inches, and my collar bone sticking almost straight up. Doctor said it was the worst dislocation he had ever seen. That was 32 years ago and I am still paying for it today. Good luck to you.

So, here it is, all fixed up 5 days after surgery.
Ended up with 12 screws.

Got my walking boot today. Not meant to put pressure on it for a while yet though, still have to use The good part, I can take it off and let my leg breath for the first time in weeks.

I have a knee that looks like that. Well still have the plate and screws...the knee has been replaced. Is the numbing stuff y'all are talking about Bupivacain?? They put that in my leg when they replaced my knee. I guess I'm allergic to it. It burned me pretty bad. I've got some burn scars on teh outside of my leg where some of the large blisters were...that stuff does suck!!
