A little light reading: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Look at the crime rates, etc.) Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world as far as crime goes, yet they are arguably one of the most heavily armed. How does that work?

If the citizens of Brazil were properly trained and practiced with armament, then they would take the fight to the criminals.

Here's another "case study" from my state:
Gun Ownership - It's The Law In Kennesaw

LOL @ the second picture posted of a gun in front of a laptop with the screen on L2D chat!

Hi DLB... sorry for the long text but I guess it's worth reading... I'm not talking against weapons, just explaining our reality in Brazil.

A few years back in 2003 or 2004 there was a referendum here and most of the population voted against free weapons.... when I was a child back in the 80's and early 90's they were sold everywhere and legislation slowly got tighter...
I would have personally voted in favor of weapon at that time, but changed my mind since them....

You have to consider that every nation is different, that's why we have so many wars, because we always fail to respect our differences... hell we see even brothers killing brothers....

Switzerland has one of the best living standard in the world... they are a very educated and rich society.... it's very above avarge from most countries... and it's also important to realize that they don't carry a huge military force both for population size and economics and all citizen there receive military training and most are considered military through their life although they will have a regular job not in the force... and that's why they can have heavy weapons.

If you take Brazil in the other hand... we're a very rich country, both discovered and to be discovered richness..... BUT we have one of the worst distribution of incoming in the world.... most of the population leaves with low education standard, health care, transportation and so on..... if it wasn't enough to be low paid, we work 40% of the year only to pay taxes (and it keeps raising).
So what do we have ? An uneducated population, economic oppressed. A weapon in the hand of a population like that would make it fell powerful, respectful. And a lot of people would use their guns to have their respect because they can't get it other way...
You know, when we get angry we can do crazy stuff that we wouldn't do normally...
Brazil has a very high homicide rate already, it's so high that more people get killed here than in a war, I think we even kill every year more people than Iraq war at it's top.
A news from yesterday stated "Brazil's homicide rate more than doubled in 30 years".
Another statistic from the same study: From 2004 to 2007 165.5 thousand people were killed in all wars around the globe.... in Brazil in the same period of time 192.8 thousand people were killed.
This is without guns, can you imagine us with guns ?

Should also look into Corbon/Glasers lineup, they offer Pow'RBall for semi-auto guns (little nylon ball in the hollow point to make sure it feeds properly and just about guarantees expansion) if you have ever had a problem with a hollow point catching the feed ramp. They also make an all copper hollow point that is very reliable and expands nicely in their DPX line.

I can certainly understand and respect your commentary here.

There are without question mass numbers of the population (even here in the US) that I feel should never have possession of a firearm - there are several in my family! I also think however that the citizens who are suited for firearm ownership and use should practice their rights (here in the US) by owning and carrying them (where legal).

I don't know what the model would look like for every country individually (it would be different), but with the correct model set in place, I think you would see an overall decline in crime, not an increase.

However, to blindly let every Brazilian have a gun, yes, I can TOTALLY empathize with your points.

Agreed. I mean... Personally, I'd love to have my hands on some cool "toys" you guys can there... But I wouldn't go out on the streets with it anyway.... Even my brother that is an airforce pilot can't carry a gun on the street....
But I just don't believe Brazil has the capacity to control weapons sales and use by the population.... hell we can't even control things much simpler than that... that's why I think it's better the way it's now...
