I think I used 3 rolls, one thing for sure, I like to protect body lines and edges when it's not my car and I don't like digging compound or polish residue out of nooks and crannies.
I'm more apt to tape things off then not, and when I show guys how to tape cars off
they can take from it what they want, they can do as much or do less, that's up to them.
Here's my thoughts...
"Polishing paint is polishing paint, detailing is getting the wax out of the cracks"
Here's another example of creative taping-off and covering up before diving in with a rotary buffer to a 1963 Corvette Stingray. This car took first place in it's class the following weekend at the "Plastic Fantastic"' car show in San Diego.
After wiping down and claying and before taping off.
Extensively taped-off. At this stage the finish had been rotary buffed twice and then wiped down in preparation for final polishing with the dual action polisher.
End results
And then it's alway nice to have 30 plus Corvette owners on hand to inspect the result in bright sunlight the next day...
Regardless, tomorrow I'll start
damp-sanding using the new Meguiar's Unigrit Finishing System.
