A little clarity please!

So until I discovered this wealth of knowledge and VAST array of opinions my detailing experience and knowledge that I have used for the last 28 years has been, well.. Old school.

1) Polish
2) {for the last few years} Glaze
3) Wax
{every 3 months, and a carnauba topper every 2 weeks}

Now that I have been enlighten by the members here and the massive wealth of knowledge I have come up wit this new routine.

1) {Clay if necessary}, Polish
2) glaze
3) seal
4) wax

This is a routine that I plan to do every 3 months as I have for the last 28 years and in between I would do light coat of carnauba every 2 weeks and a quick detailer on the off weeks.


So here are my questions,
1) Is this over kill? {I have lots of free time so it is not a hassle}
2) Paint sealants, I want a sealer that will hold up to these conditions (for 3 months). Just for the record I have been using a "new blend" sealant from RIGHTLOOK that was recommended by a friend at a local Lexus dealer. It that has produced and amazing shine and the durability has seemed to hold up as it has taken a beating for the last 3 months and still looks great.

Things to keep in mind:
1) I live in New Mexico where the summer's are 90* - 100* on a daily bases, I live at 6500 Ft above sea level so you can Imagine how strong the sun is.
2) Very minimal humidity {and even less rain}, Sand storms, hard water and the winters have been bitter cold with not much snow.
3} Ready for the topper... Wait for it... I have a 3 car garage that is used as a gym and work shop so the cars are never in it unless I am detailing.

Welcome to AG, Joe. On your new routine, I would seal first and then glaze. Personally I think glazing is a waste of time and product. With the exception of show cars. I would seal and top with a good nuba. If you like the Rightlook sealer, by all means stick with it.

If ur looking for a inexpensive sealer that last i highly recommend Collinite 845.i have found it at local parts stores like advance or autozone.its also sold here.people i no have seen 5 months of durability during the winter months.(I live in Pittsburgh PA, the salt just kills the finish).Now there cars were garaged over night but sat outside during the day while they were at work.By itself it doesnt look bad but i love the look of carnauba so i wait a day and top it with my favorite wax at the moment.

wash --- clay --- polish --- protect

you can add a glaze in as wanted after polishing, but most products now offer plenty of gloss and wetness on their own.

Thanks for the feed back! I picked up a bottle of PB's Black Hole and White Diamond to use on my wife’s charcoal gray metallic Lexus and my White sand tri-coat metallic Lariat, They advertise it as "use before wax or sealants", is this wrong? As for the Collinite I plan on picking some up to use as a winter coat but do to an abundance of free time and a obsession with maintaining my vehicles cosmetically and mechanically topping it with a fresh coat of carnauba every few weeks is not a problem. Hey Joe, just got through using PB's Black Hole on a True Red Miata, then sealed with Souveran paste. Great looking results. You can not go wrong with PB's products!

the new Poorboys glazes are sealant and wax compatible and should be used after polishing and before protection.
