Detailing Products and Cost - just some ramblings...

I'm posting this in "Off Topic" since it's really just bored ramblings.

Anyway, I got to thinking about the price of different products along with the numerous posts I've seen regarding paint prep vs. LSPs in determining the final "look" or "appearance" of a vehicle and it just seemed odd that there are so many high $$$ LSPs out there and no real super-high $$$ polishes.

Sure, Menz is great polish and doesn't qualify as "cheap" in my book, other polishes fall into the same price/performance range as well. And, for the number of vehicles that can be done with a 32oz bottle of nano, I'd say the price is pretty close to Souveran Paste, but why hasn't anyone tried to develop and sell some crazy "designer" polish, equivilent to the likes of the super high dollar waxes. You know the ones... 2000 - 30,000 bucks a jar...

Not that I'd buy them, just wondering why nobody has really tried it, given that most agree the prep makes the most difference.

theres goes that idea ... thought the patent would have come in by now !!! (j.k)

ingredients, design, manufacturing, marketing, advertising and many other expenses go into a product. Unfortunately those that do not find the fine line between profit and excess, usually go out of business or product pulled from shelve.

All Menz has to do is claim they have highly trained scientists sit down with a microscope and a pair of tweezers picking only the "best" abrasives from the standard sampling of nano, making sure they achieve the highest consistancly of particle size and shape to provide the "worlds best finish" and then charge $1000.00 bucks a bottle... someone would buy it...

with free refills for life of course...

I have been wondering this same thing! It is without a doubt more important, so it has bewildered me on this exact same subject!

What we should do is make a list/poll on what we would expect the 'ultimate' polish, pads, and whatever goes into the prep work to be like!

I was told there are only about a half dozen polish abrasive makers in the world.....located in US...Europe and China...and most mixers buy from these companies to make thier polish with....

3m and Menz being some of the biggest ones....as far as a abrasive Mfg

I think it was either Bud Abrahms or Ron Ketch who told me this a while back when I called on a product and we got into polishes...

I am sure they are graded also for uniformity and they way they are milled for shape...

Al

I know that the idea of a "super polish" is kind of goofy and meant it as joke, just to illustrate what seems like an odd reality in the detailing world... People will complain about the cost of Menzerna, 50 bucks for 32 oz, and wonder if it's worth it, but will drool over waxes that cost from several hundred to several thousands of dollars... people are funny.
