Can DG #105 and Aqua Wax be put on in layers??

Just got off the phone with DG there are some conflicts from what they told me vs what I've read in this thread.

I was told that the cleaners in #105 are stronger than the #101

With that said it would only make sense to me to use #105, #601, and then #101... Again this is considering the info DG guys just told me

Other than that all else I was told mirrors what has been said in this thread

Thats real strange...as i was talking to them just the other day on the Marine polish and cleaners....and was talking different processes ..and I was told the 105 was the milder cleaner of them all....and others on autopia called also and was told the same...that 105 had the least cleaners of 101 ...they even had a email stating what was said...I will have to see on this....not saying they did not say this..but have said something other to that prior...not to me but others that called....they said the order of cleaners from strongest to lightest was 101...151 fiberglass polish for cars...105 and then 111....

501 marine was the strongest of all.....

I would like to add that I told him of going from 101-pba-105, it was then he told me that the 105 had the harshest cleaners of the two BUT he did say at that point "we are splitting hairs" (exact words)...

this is a letter sent by some one who inquired....I had one but is long gone now..


OK, guys, here is the word from Bill, one of the 2 DG inventors. Told him there was a controversy raging here and that my understanding was 105 was an LSP with some small cleaning action and long term durability. Here is his response..."Bill, the owner chemist

Thank you for allowing us to comment on this controversy about DG105. Your experience is correct. DG105 is formulated for mild cleaning, clear coat safe, high gloss and long lasting durability and protection. Recommended for both new and older vehicles. DG105 can also be used in combination with PBA601.

You may post this if you prefer. Thanks again for taking the time to email us, and a special thanks for using Duragloss.

From my reading this does not conflict with what I was told... Just happens I also spoke with Bill (didn't know he was anything other than Tech Support).

In the above excerpt he says 105 has mild cleaners and can be used as a LSP BUT, I don't see him saying the 105 or 101 has < or > cleaners than the other.

Bill told me deciding which one to use first (105 vs. 101) was splitting hairs but in the same breath told me that he would do 105, pba601, and then 101.

Bill also said (as you've stated) that after fully curing you can layer the 105/101 (which ever YOU choose as a LSP), and also that 105x's 3 should be the most before you start "wasting your time"

Anyhow, if anyone has any questions it sounds like you'll just have to give Bill a call for yourself... Mighty nice guy I might add, I was very pleasantly surprised how eager he was to answer all of my questions ( I had about 7).

After talking to him (especially finding out now that he's the owner) and realizing just how darn nice the guy is coupled with the great product and outstanding prices, I am a true DG Fan 4 life!

The confusion started when Killrwheels said it had cleaners that would prevent layering.
Bill and Jerry are both very helpful and are willing to take time out of their day to answer your questions. How many times have you talked to Barry Meguiar
Duragloss is an outstanding product and if you have a question about it instead of asking some rep from a detailing company who may or may not have used it you can talk to the man who developed it.
Bill told me that when he was testing 105 on his car he washed it with dawn and it did not remove the 105. He even washed it with a caustic soap and it did not remove it.
I know of nothing that comes close to the durability of Duragloss applied once a year will keep your vehicle looking good.
Awesome gloss outstanding durability easy to use and it don't cost much what more could you ask for.

Yes according to Bill 105 can be layered with diminishing returns after the third layer... The only conflict was the process of 101/601/105 or 105/601/101

Even so, if I plan on or even think of layering I would:

A) stick to something with no cleaners

OR

B) stick with a product that didn't need layering

But this is just my personal preference.

My personal opinion is that if you prep your paint correctly you should be just fine with one layer, if you want a little more depth throw on some nuba.

Don't forget you can apply a single coat of 105 and top it as many times as you want with AW.
One coat of 105 went 14 months on my pickup and was still good but like I said in earlier post I keep it in a garage when it is not in use.
The FC&S is an excellent cleaner and it ramps up the shine but I mix it with AW. I use 2/3 FC&S and 1/3 AW this way while I'm cleaning I"m also adding protection and gloss.

You need to use one of these polishes first before using #105. They are #101, XMT360, or klasse AIO. This is so that #105 has an area to bond too.
You can forgo polish by using #601.
To keep your paint finish looking great, use #951 after washes......

Have you tried using the DG bonding agent?
