New to detailing with a few questions!

OPTION 1
Wolfgang Porter Cable 7424 Swirl-Free Kit

OPTION 2
Meguiars Porter Cable Ultra Polish Kit with 5.5 Inch Pads, Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Polishing Kit, Meguiars polishes, Porter Cable 7424 Mirror Glaze

Im new to detailing and im looking to get a good starter kit that will allow me to do moderate swirl removal and paint correction on my 2011 Honda Fit(Milano Red). Im torn between the two kits ive listed above and im hoping that you guys can give me some pointers on where to start as well as what other tools and products i will need above and beyond these kits....

Re: New to detailing with a few questions!

Welcome to AGO!!

I would go with the 5.5" kit. PCXPs cut better with the smaller pad.

Re: New to detailing with a few questions!

Option 2. The porter cable needs 5.5 " pads. The 6.5" pads will not provide the results you are looking for.

Re: New to detailing with a few questions!

if you are going with a PC then you want no bigger than 5.5 inch pads with a 5 inch backing plate so that means option 2 is better right off the bat.

are you set on getting a kit though? For around the same money you can get some 7/8 inch thick 5.5 in flat hydrotech pads (tangerine and crimson) a couple MF cutting pads, and smaller bottles of compound/polish and some nicer microfibres

Re: New to detailing with a few questions!

how about the Wolfgang products vs the Meguiars Products....which will provide better results on Honda(soft) paint?

to answer your question....NO im not dead set on ordering a kit i thought it would be easier doing so though.

the hardest part about making the decision is that most of how people answer is option and everyone has a different one! lol

are the hydrotech pads better that the ones provided in the kits?

I agree get a setup with 5.5 in pads. If your fits paint is in good condition you shouldn't need anything as strong as 105 yet. No matter what you decide don't forget to add a free sample of something else to try.

Re: New to detailing with a few questions!

the thinner the pad, the easier it is for a DA to jiggle and spin it and transfer that motion to the paint.

I also prefer flat pads b/c I don't like how the dimples in the CCS pads trap product. Makes them harder to clean etc etc...
