New in Ohio - Audi & Mercedes paint Questions

New to the forum, which I have been reading for the last few months. Also new to paint correction. I’ve studied a lot of the videos on DA technique, and I think I’m doing it right, but I’m having trouble removing light swirls in our cars (08 Audi A6 – grey quartz metallic)(06 Mercedes R350 Alabaster White). Using Griot’s DA with uber 5.5”flat foam pads. I tried Adam’s swirl remover and fine machine polish without much luck. Reviews on those polishes here are not too positive. Can anyone recommend polish combinations for the finishes on my cars? I bought some M105/205, but haven’t tried either yet.

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: New in Ohio - Audi & Mercedes paint Questions

Welcome to AG and your already doing the right thing by using the least aggressive polish to remove swirls, looks like you need to start with the M105 at about speed 5 on the GG RO and then inspect. If that seems to do the trick, follow up with the M205. Without pics, its hard to see what your working on exactly but you may need to do a couple passes on the paint with that machine, I've got one too and our machine does have its limitations for correction, again, this is why pics would help, thanks.

Hi and......to AGO from another Ohio guy.

Just A Suggestion:

Do a 'detailer's': "with the least-aggressive---test spot"...before attempting detailing an entire vehicle.

How To Do a Test Spot

From my limited polishing experience, I can tell you the Wolfgang twins worked great on my BMW. I chose them over the Meg's combo because I read they would be easier to use for someone with limited DA experience. I actually learned on these polishes and got great results. They are very user friendly, but are not super aggressive. They would be great for a car with moderate swirls IMHO.

Re: New in Ohio - Audi & Mercedes paint Questions

Follow-up question. Is it necessary to wash with dawn to strip before polishing, or is a regular wash and clay enough?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
I prefer using a car wash shampoo that contains no "wax or gloss-enhancers"---followed by a claying-session;
the polishing-'step(s)'; and, then, a sacrificial-barrier application.

That's just me, though.
