    Here's a quick video that show how and why to mark your backing plate to see and monitor pad rotation while doing any correction or polishing steps.

    5" Backing Plate
    Lake Country 5" DA Backing Plate <-- Get this one as the Velcro will match Lake Country Pads

    The 5" Lake Country Backing Plates fits all popular dual action polishers including Porter Cable, Griot's Garage and Meguiar's.

    Lake Country

    5.5" Flat Pads

    In order from the most to the least aggressive

    Yellow = Cutting pad (most aggressive)
    Orange = Light Cutting Pad
    White = Polishing Pad
    Black = Finishing Pad
    Blue = Waxing Pad (softest)

    The outer edge of the face of these pads is tapered so they are actually a little under 5" in diameter

    Approximately 7/8" thick

    Thanks Mike. Was showing a newbie how to polish with his new GG6 and this was the first things I emphasized.

    Exactly.

    Anytime a person wants to remove below surface defects they want to see the pad rotating and people that are new to machine polishing tend to not always hold the pad flat to the paint or make other mistakes that prevent the pad from rotating and then don't get the results they're looking for.

    Anyone reading this thread, watching this video that's new to machine polishing with a DA Polisher should read my article here,

    Re: Video: Mark your backing plate to make it easy to see pad rotation

    Long time lurker, first post. My late brother was a master detailer and got me my first job at a dealership detailing vehicles.

    After a long break from detailing, I am now coming back to it and renewing my love for this ART.

    I am attempting to learn to use a DA polisher and this thread has been a tremendous help.

    Big thanks to you Mr. Phillips for being so informative and helpful for newbies and pros alike.

    Looking forward to spending a lot of time on the AG forums!

    Welcome to AutogeekOnline!

    Thanks for replying to this thread. It's probably the thread I recommend the most and by recommend I mean I copy and paste the title of this thread because all the titles of all my threads are blue clickable links to themselves.

    Anyway, although I share this thread with a LOT of newbies to machine polishing... it never gets any replies.
