People want to see your work before bring their car in so build strong portfolio, use your own car or friends, take quality picture and show people what you can do.
I suggest you stop doing that. The problem with working really cheap is twofold: 1) You are not making any real money so it's a loose for you. 2) The referrals you get from doing cheap work will also expect your work to be cheap so you can't really increase your prices so you keep not making money for your work.

There is only one group of people I work cheaply for: My friends. I offer them half off my normal price. But if they refer someone to me, it's full price.
