    Good question! Subscribed.

I'm currently bidding on a lightly used Makita 9227C on ebay. Thinking that might be the best route to learn if I like the tool and then maybe invest in the Flex rotary or even forced rotation tool.

Is it factory reconditioned? If so, I've bought factory reconditioned power tools before and they look just like new, are fully tested, fixed whatever was originally wrong, and often have a full factoy warranty. No reason to avoid them IMO (other than the few available usually sell out fast). Arguably they are more thoroughly tested than the products coming off the automated assembly lines.

If it's reconditioned by some 3rd party shop I'd be less likely to buy it.
