Question How long to let Poly-coat cure??

Guys,

I know this is somewhere on this forum but I am mid-polish on the car and was thinking about time left in the day. Does anyone know how long I should let the poly coat dry before I can rinse the car? How about before I top with FK 425 or Optimum car wax?? Thanks!!

William!

Re: How long to let Poly-coat cure??

Does it indicate on the label what the recommended curing time should be before top or over coating?

As a general rule I like to let them cure overnight. That said, the longer the cure the more long lasting the shine. Let's say you only have 8 hours instead of 12; my guess is you won't be able to tell the difference.

If you want a more definitive answer, contact Autogeek's costomer servise and pose the question with them. They are the experts and it's their product line so they should be able to nail it down for you satisfactorily.

Re: How long to let Poly-coat cure??

Just did my car a while back. 12-24 hours before topping it but frankly you surely realize that any topping you put on is only for show because it won't stick. No chemical is going to penetrate it so if you want to wax it fine but frankly all you need to maintain it is to wash it. I pretty much have put all my products aside at this pint except for one change. I now use a car shampoo with super gloss enhancer in it so All I do now is do a weekly wash and the car looks like I spent all weekend on it. If I can't wait a week I just hit it with a waterless wash to get the dust off but you know what...?... Dust has a heck of a time sticking now so it's really changed my entire maintenance mindset.

You can buff it off around 30 minutes after application unless environment is very hot and humid. I would allow it to fully cure after for 12-24 hours before adding another coat or some topper.

Re: How long to let Poly-coat cure??

Advise noted! I will wait until Monday evening to add another coat. We will see how it holds up being rained on with only 4 hours cure time. I got caught in a Gully Washer on the way back to the house.. it was beading water like crazy, but that T-storm was like a power washer. People were taking cover and stopping on the side of the road because you could not see. Just glad I didn't see the quarter sized hail reported just a few miles away.. whew!

A quick after pic!

Ok... last question. How do I get this stuff of the pad? I have used XMT pad cleaner, dawn, and some DP exterior cleaner. This stuff is sticky.

You must be talking about Optimum Opti-Coat. I think the OP was actually asking about DP Poli-Coat.

I haven't actually used poli-coat, but I have used other sealants that are also difficult to wash off the pad. What has worked for me is to use IPA. Work the IPA into the pad, and after the IPA dissolves the sealant, just clean the pad as you normally do.
