1939 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante - Competition Ready TV on Velocity

1939 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante - Competition Ready TV on Velocity

Competition Ready Team - Episode 2
This episode of Competition Ready was sponsored by Meguiar's and as such my Competition Ready was created drawing from trained experts that work for Meguiar's plus a few other professional detailers in the area. One of the things I make a personal practice is to give due credit where credit is due. In this case the majority of all the work performed on these cars was performed by the team you see below. I helped to dial in the process when I could and helped to work on the cars in-between shots but the majority of the work was performed by my team of carefully selected seasoned detailing professionals.

    From left to right...
Rick McDonough, Andy Wong, Derek Bemis, Nick Winn, David Sylican, Mike Pennington, Mike Phillips, Paul Cartegena, Ed Terwilliger, Richard Lin and Mike Stoops.

Not pictured but a member of this team is Joe Fernandez aka Superior Shine in the forum world.

    1939 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante
Out of the 4 cars we detailed and prepped for the Petersen Museum Grand Opening this Bugatti was arguably in the worst condition at least visually.

Here's how we were introduced to the car... like all the other cars she was covered in plastic and under the plastic a light coat of dust...

    Glass Display Platform
Notice the Bugatti is on a display platform. The center section is GLASS so no walking on it with your shoes on and it would be a bad idea to drop a polisher on it.

    Swirl City
The swirls you see in the below picture show the condition of the paint over all the rest of the body panels.

    After shots
The museum would not allow us to take pictures before the grand opening. There was a staff photographer for our TV production company that was on hand and did take pictures. As soon as we get access to the pictures showing the team at work I'll share them on this forum.

Until then, here's the after shots I took after the grand opening on Saturday evening...

    At the grand opening...

Mike Phillips, Bob McKee and Adrienne "AJ" Janic

The type 57 Bugatti had a 3.3 liter twin cam straight 8 engine. The letter "C" in the name meant this was the supercharged version.

The Type 57 was introduced in 1937 and only produced for 2 years. Only 17 Atalante models were built. The information I have states in its current condition this 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante is valued at 5 to 7 million dollars.

Beautiful car, beautiful job, beautiful lady.

Btw, when I 1st glanced at the title I thought it was going to be a Cadillac Allante. I couldn't wait to see it! Lol.

The Atalante turned out to be pretty cool though Rare & fancy that's for sure.
