Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

I want to go SOO bad but I can't afford it.
  • $450 for the class
  • $100+-/night at a hotel = $300
  • $200-250 gas
  • $100 for food, snacks, ect.

Thats $1050-1100 that this college kid doesn't have

I'm saving up money to buy the Mytee Lite II right now and if I went to the class I wouldn't be able to buy that for another 6 months at least. Maybe some day after I graduate I will go but just can't afford it right now

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

Having been to multiple detailing classes with Mike I would view this as a steal to whomever is remotely close to the fence on joining the class.

Just to see Mike's tips on my two least favorite chores, engines and interiors, makes me consider going again to the Mecca of detailing in Stuart.

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

I didn't see anything about principles of Wet/Damp Sanding. Is this in a different class that Mike/AG offers.

I've spent more money and learned far less before. Sounds awesome.

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

I would really like to sign up, but it's just not in the cards right now. Airfare, hotel, car rental, food and class would be kinda spendy. Plus, no direct flights from Minneapolis to Palm Beach.

I guess I will spend my time studying Mike's detail handbook this Winter! That guide is worth it's weight in gold!

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

Looks like a few of you signed up over the weekend, this should be an educational and fun class.

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

My deciding factor is if the class is offering machine damp sanding w/ the correction lesson. That is the one thing I have been trying to go to a class for. Is this something that is still going to be offered in the January class or another class some other time?

Re: Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp

I did the 101 and 102 classes last year. How will these classes supplement and continue those. I note these feature engine and interior cleaning.

Will the freebies watching the stream participate and to what extent? Will Mike be talking to the free viewer audience or the paid attendees?

I will be a hundred miles away and would really like to come.

Teaching a class on how to wetsand paint, both by hand and by machine, and then how to use rotary buffer to remove the sanding marks and then polish to a high gloss is a class unto itself and takes an entire day.

We've had many people ask for classes on interior detailing and engine detailing so we changed the format of this new 2-day class to include everything listed in the outline on the store page which includes machine polishing on Sunday but not a dedicated day for wetsanding and using a rotary buffer.

During the Sunday class I will have a hood set-up for both hand sanding and machine dampsanding so anyone that wants to try their hand at it is encouraged to do so.

The Sunday class will go over techniques for removing swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation using the below polishers,
  • DA Polishers - Porter Cable PC7424XP, Meguiar's G110v2 and Griot's DA Polisher
  • Cyclo Polisher
  • Flex 3401 Polisher
  • Rotary Buffers
I would add that in all the years I've been teaching wetsanding, both hand sanding and machine sanding, after the students go learn what's involved the most common comment I hear is they're never going to do it.

So I'll show the basics of hand and machine sanding and anyone that's interested can try it themselves but again, to do the topic justice it really needs to be a dedicated class for the entire day.

The upcoming classes in January will supplement the classes you attended by showing engine and interior cleaning.

On each day we will live stream up to one hour of the class. Anyone watching will only be able to observe, there will be no two way communication.

The students will receive 100% of my attention.

Just for the record, and the record goes back to 1988, that's 23 years and just a few weeks away from 24 years, the only time I answered questions for online viewers for paid-for classes was ONE day that we live streamed the classes you attended and that was only on Saturday.

It was a valuable learning experience for all us. It was also a first in the industry and we have Max to thank for that as we continue to do testing of both taping and broadcasting live all types of projects taking place here at Autogeek.
