Megs solo backing plate is very nice for 6.5" pads. I bought two and cut one down to 3.75" to use 4" pads because there isnt a thick foam one on the market.

I use a 6" Lake Country backing plate for my 6 1/2 inch pads. Because the pads and backing plate is close to being the same size I pay particular attention to centering the pad on the plate..

Here's an article I wrote for 5.5" and 6.5" pads and the flexible backing plates you can use with them. If you've never used a flexible backing plate, I can't recommend them enough.
Below are some pictures to show the size of the backing plates relative to some popular buffing pads to help you get an idea of the fitment of the backing plate to the hook-n-loop interface on the back of the buffing pads.
Note in this picture and all the above pictures the extra backing and or foam that sticks out past the outer edge of the backing plate. You want this extra material as a safety margin to help prevent running the outer edge of the backing plate into any painted areas, or around trim or other components like side view mirrors, rear wing spoilers, etc.
Both of these flexible backing plates are excellent backing plates to have in your tool chest to go along with your rotary buffer.
All of the above backing plates and pads work great with all the rotary buffers on Autogeek.net

Thank you all so much my friends!
I got a few good 5" (125mm) backing plates that I will try out with my 6.5" pads. I think I am still going to pick up a LC 6" pad though.
Lasthope05 - Gloss-It actually has a 3" Flexible backing plate (with a really thick foam layer) to use for 4 inch pads. It's gonna be around $40 with shipping though... kinda pricey.

I know about the 3" backing plate from gloss-it/rubbish boys UK, but I dont like the over hang. With such a small pad you want the full contact area of the pad as you are concentrating on a small area.
The same with with a 6.5" pad. I dont like using a 5" backing plate because when you apply pressure to the pad it is not evenly distributed and the overhang just mushrooms up.
