Ford Taurus SHO on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage - Flex 3401 Dual Action Polisher

Ford Taurus SHO on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage - Flex 3401 Dual Action Polisher

Flex 3401 on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage and Mike Phillips

The third episode we shot was on the unique power and safety features of the Flex 3401, for this segment we used a white Ford Taurus SHO that belongs to Dennis. This car is normally parked outside and as such the paint not only had swirls and scratches but it was also stained with embedded dirt.

Here's Max and me going over what I'm going to share in this segment...

Here's Dennis and me working on his car...

In this shot I've used Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and buffed a small section of the trunk lid and now I'm wiping off the residue...

You won't be able to see in the pictures what we could see in person because it's hard to capture before and after differences on white paint but what Dennis is looking at is the area I buffed is now a very bright, white color and all the paint surrounding this section has a brown tint to it. The brown tint is embedded dirt staining that's build up over time and exposure to the outdoors.

Then Brian, one of the cameramen, came in and took some close-up footage, we'll have to wait till this episode airs before we see what the camera was able to pick up. One thing I like to point out is that while you can easily see dirt staining on light colored cars after you buff a section you normally can't easily see dirt staining on medium to dark colors BUT if the car is a daily driver parked part of the time or all of the time outdoors the paint is being stained with dirt, pollution and other air-borne contaminants.

This is why it's important to either polish the paint like we did here or use a pre-wax cleaner before applying a wax or paint sealant so that you ensure the surface is clean and ready to be sealed. Otherwise you merely seal existing dirt into the paint. Another option is to use a one-step cleaner/wax for daily drivers as this will clean, polish and protect in one step.

Fun shot with Dennis and the Flex 3401...

It was pretty cool to both work with Dennis and also work on another one of his personal cars...

Well... certainly didn't expect to see an old-school SHO when I clicked on this thread

Pretty cool back in the day, for a family sedan.

I was thinking it was a new one also. I had a 91.

This is just one of Dennis's personal cars, it's a 1990 and in excellent shape except it needs a little paint polishing. I left one clean, swirl free shiny spot on the trunk lid and then left Dennis everything he would need to do the rest of the car... or everything his son will need to do the rest of the car.

    ***Update***

Just added the video from this how-to segment to the first post of this thread...

This came out really well, if you watch you'll see I"m using the brand new 4" backing plate for the Flex 3401 and of course this was Dennis's personal car so it was pretty cool to be able to be on the show and work on his car.

On Speed Channel at 4:30pm Eastern Time!

In case you missed this episode, it's on at 4:30pm on Speed Channel, that's just a few minutes from now.

In this episode Dennis lets me work on his personal car to remove swirls and oxidation using a Flex 3401 and the new 4" backing plate for the Flex 3401.

Dennis is a pure joy to work with and if you watch I think you'll see how smooth and easy flowing our segment on his show runs....

    Check it out!
