Re: k and n air filter
Any CAI that doesn't require a new tune for you car's computer isn't going to improve horsepower. They don't make your engine sound bigger either. They are a waste of money.

A true cold air kit should have the filter completely blocked off from engine heat. Sometimes it puts the open filter in the fender. This may require extending wires on your MAF sensor. Not a job for the novice, but the power gains are more significant than just a filter replacement which might net you a handful of horsepower.

Re: k and n air filter
The problem is it is a turbo, but a 2004 made turbo, It is not as efficient as something today like a taurus sho turbo. I would just want to do a simple filter install and maybe a cold air intake if needed

Like Truckbutt said, you'll need a tune to take advantage of a cold air intake. Not so with a filter but a cold air + tune means $500 as opposed to $50 for just a filter.

Re: k and n air filter
Id rather go with buying just the filter. 500 is alot for a pretty young car, Id start with the filter, then buy the cold air intake and get it tuned by a mechanic

Go with the cold air intake. And down the road upgrade pipes...
With any vehicle...the more air and the faster it gets in and out is very beneficial for performance. Hope I worded that correctly

Re: k and n air filter
I have had K&N filters in all my vehicles. As far as I know they will not change the sound of the vehicle, and you may get slightly better gas mileage, but not Earth shattering. If you do go this route, be sure to get the cleaner and the filter oil. You will never have to replace your air filter again.

Re: k and n air filter
The cai will make you're engine louder and there might not be any hp gains. Increase your boost and retune the computer, that will open the car up.

Re: k and n air filter
I did not notice any sound difference when I put in a k&n filter in my Silverado. I put in a full k&n CAI and it definitely increased the noise at full throttle - the noise is more a result of eliminating all the baffling in factory air box, which is quiter but restricts the airflow.
I just looked very quickly online and didn't see any CAI's for your car, so probably a moot point. Like others have said, you will get better sound and performance from an exhaust system. Probably only thing to will notice from a K&N filter is you won't have to replace it, but you will have to clean and oil it every 25 to 50 thousand miles
