Anyone use a portable Air Coonditioner in their garage?

Im too old to deal with another torrid summer ! My garage is insulated. Im thinking about getting one of these AC's and running it for a few hours before doing a detail. My garage is ~ 450 sqft. 13000 BTU should do the trick. Thoughts anyone?

Re: Anyone use a portable Air Coonditioner in their garage?

I never had really good luck with portable ac. We had about 3 in the house one summer and none of them really worked. I hated that the tank that holds the water was so small, had to empty it every 3 hours... so in the summer nights I would wake up sweating. But that was about 5 years ago, I'm sure portable ac has improved.

Id get the 2 hose model which should eliminate or reduce that. There are mixed reviews on Amazon. Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Anyone use a portable Air Coonditioner in their garage?

I have used one in the past...13000 think. It took forever to cool the garage by only about 10 degrees and that wasnt in the heat of the day. I opted to install the Mitsubishi ductless unit. My garage window faces the street so no go on the window unit. The ductless unit installed over the walk in door. I did add insulation over the garage in the attic. I still need to insulate the doors before summer hits. Bottom line, the ductless unit was worth every penny.

Is it big enough to put a window unit in? I've got a window unit for my garage that works awesome, and it's a lot easier to set up than a portable unit would be. I can get it downright cold in there during the summer!

Re: Anyone use a portable Air Coonditioner in their garage?

I had a window unit in my old garage. I had a shop set up where I used to do side jobs (mechanical) in the evenings and on weekends. I would come home from work, kick on the window unit and eat dinner. By the time I would go out to the garage you could hang meat in there. It worked great
