Parking with no garage....

So next year for school I will hopefully be living in a townhome. The only problem is that I will have no garage. My question is, do they make a Canopy that will fit into a parking space (I know this sounds nuts haha)? Or am I better off with a car cover? Can I use it everyday? I figure the Tent would be beneficial for the days at school I am bored and want to detail. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Parking with no garage....

Your better off with a car cover. The canopy would have to be secured to the ground, which means drilling into the pavement, so it wont blow over and scratch your car or even damage your neighbors car.

Ok, thanks. So should I look at the Covercraft Weatherguard? Do you have any other suggestions? Will it be the most protective and durable?

Re: Parking with no garage....

Not sure the area where you will be staying at as far as how secure it is...but on my last visit to Pep Boys I saw they make special weights (10lbs ea.) that sort of wrap around the legs of EZ-Up Tents...They come in sets of 4 to help weigh down the tent. Car covers would still need to secure under the vehicle but I see them as easier to take than a heavy tent w/ weights? EZ ups are around $80 at Walmart and some of the really good car covers are just as much if not more.

Re: Parking with no garage....

I bought a Covercraft Evolution along with a cable lock 7 months ago. I was tired of cleaning up the bird droppings and tree sap at least 2 times a day. It works great. I live in a Townhome and park underneath a tree. Keeps the car relatively clean, a little dust does get through the cover especially during windy days but care MUST be taken with placing the cover on and off the car, like no dragging of the cover on the car, windy days and fresh wax. There are pros and cons to each type of cover, with the Weatherguard you can use a regular washing machine to clean and this is the most expensive in the Covercraft line but the others such as Noah and Evolution you need a commercial wash without an agitator but costs less. The Evolution has an extra layer for door ding protection. It took about 1 week or so to get my cover delivered. I did not buy from AG because of the $$ and their discount codes excludes car covers (even the EASTER15) so I bought elsewhere.

Re: Parking with no garage....

thanks for deleting the link ...

I met with Chris the rep for Covercraft several years back at Ecklers and he showed me the differences in their covers versus several other manufacturers. He also showed us the difference between the Noah and the Weatherguard. The Noah is heavier and cannot easily be stored in car for traveling otherwise a great cover. The Weatherguard is lighter and can travel and would be my personal choice.

Also note AG has a price match policy, so consider calling in to discuss if looking at saving a buck or so elsewhere. Some resellers are not even authorized vendors meaning no warranty if anything goes wrong.

Re: Parking with no garage....

I have the Noah model for my Dakota. The cover is huge and is a pain to put on but it was a must for a while.

Re: Parking with no garage....

I will not be traveling with it, so would it be best to go for the Noah for max protection?

Re: Parking with no garage....

I would like to add that after you remove the cover there is always residue on the vehicle. I have washed it and immediately cover it but when I remove the cover there is something out gassing from the cover and/or moisture evaporating/condensing back on the car causing a less than ideal appearance.

It fits fairly tight. You have to add holes for an external antenna and I added some drain holes in the bed section since water will pond otherwise.

I needed it since it is parked up some nasty pine trees and under a popular bird route (to a bird feeder in the yard).
